My mother used to say when I was little I would get so excited whenever she was driving around and got lost. If she would pull over to look at the Thomas Guide I’d say “oooh mommy, are we lost?” She said she’d never seen kid so excited not to go home. I remember being devastated when my parents would go on a trip without us. Not because I would miss them. But because they were off seeing something or doing something that I wanted to see and do. The first time they went to Hawaii all I could think about was the Brady Bunch episode and how they were probably finding the tiki idol and being bitten by the spider and how unfair it was that it wasn’t happening to me. How could they?!? As I got older I left town any chance I got. Whether it was a road trip to Tijuana my freshman year or a fine art study abroad to the Czech Republic I will go any and everywhere my heart and my bank account allow me to go. The emotions of joy and sadness or physically manifested in my body whenever I leave or haven’t left for a prolonged period of time. I am a professional student. I have the degree count and student loan debt to prove it. Travel is my education. The world is my classroom. I learn something each and every time I go to a new city or a new country. My life is enriched by the experience. My mind is expanded. My heart is opened and I am a better person for it.
